The Gospel reading for the weekend of July 20-21, the 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time, is a familiar one. It is a well-known story from the Gospel of Luke about two sisters who both love and serve Jesus, but in different ways. Even adult siblings bicker from time to time -- maybe that's why this story is so easy to recall and relate to! Here is a brief reflection that takes a new look at the story.
Tiny Retreat for Summer
Summer is a season of growth and change. In our part of the world, we are surrounded by green and the growth of plants and crops. Children seem to shoot up and fill out over the summer break from school. Here is a little retreat that invites us to reflect upon our own growth in faith. Take a few minutes to let St. Hildegard of Bingen, Doctor of the Church, lead you into reflection.
Busy Person's Retreat
Even though schedules change in summertime, we can still find our selves very busy with different kinds of activities. Even if you can't carve out time to go on a retreat, try this Busy Person's Retreat from the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Our Catholic Faith and Technology
Human beings have dealt with technology -- and the questions of its right use -- from prehistoric times (think of the invention of the wheel, weapons, etc.). Enjoy the Farmers' Market AND Help Feed the Hungry!
The Des Moines Farmers' Market is always a fun way to spend a Saturday morning. Meals from the Market, which aids in the ministry of the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC), provides a great opportunity to do good in the metro as part of your day. Volunteers staff an informational booth at the Farmers' Market, and then as the market is closing down, they canvas the vendors for donations of unsold produce and other products. Those items are taken to the DMARC warehouse to be distributed to the 14 food pantry sites they partner with, as well as their mobile sites. Various shifts are available. This is a great opportunity for individuals, groups, and households. Go to the DMARC website for more information and to sign up. There you will find additional opportunities to volunteer with the important work DMARC does to assist the hungry.
